RTD clampdown on foreign vehicles, 103 compounds issued

ALOR STAR: The Road Transport Department (RTD) has impounded two tour vans from Thailand yesterday for failing to settle compounds amounting to RM14,400.

Its state director Ismasuhaimi Shariff said the two vans were flagged down during a ‘Foreign Vehicles Ops’ along the Alor Star-Kangar trunk road.

“Upon inspection, we found that each van has outstanding compounds, 20 and 28, amounting to RM6,000 and RM8,400 respectively.

“The vans have been escorted to the state RTD headquarters in Jalan Suka Menanti and we have sent their passengers, all Thai nationals, to the Shahab Perdana Bus Terminal in Mergong to resume their journey,” he said in a press conference here today.

Ismasuhaimi said the van owners may claim their respective vehicles after settling all the outstanding compounds.

He added that the department had also inspected 68 other foreign vehicles during the operation and issued 103 compounds for various offences.
