Pahang Crown Prince urges unity when carrying out flood relief

KUANTAN: Tengku Mahkota of Pahang Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah today reminded all parties that will be involved in providing flood relief assistance to potential victims here to set aside political differences and focus on providing equal treatment to all.

He said no one should be sidelined in case floods hit the state, and urged all parties to work together for the good of everyone.

"There could be some weaknesses or delays, but do not turn them into a big issue. Do not practice village politics (“politik kampung”). There should be no incidents of victims not receiving food, or allowed to register for shelter. Instead, the process has to be made simple.

"State government agencies, corporate bodies and individuals should come forward to provide assistance in whatever form to lessen the burden of flood victims," Tengku Abdullah said.

He was speaking to reporters after attending a briefing on flood preparations in the state at Wisma Sri Pahang here.

Tengku Abdullah said in times of emergency and disaster, no individual should be sidelined, and they should receive all the necessary assistance regardless of their race, religion and background.

He said a natural disaster is also not the time for individuals or agencies to try to score popularity points, but to carry out their duties honestly.
