Central Spine Road stretch connecting Bentong - Kuala Krai opens today

KUALA LIPIS: A section of the 390km Central Spine Road (CSR), which connects Bentong and Kuala Krai, Kelantan, was officially opened today.

Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said the opening of the 3.85km section between Kampung Kechur to Kampung Seberang Jelai here, will help reduce travel time and serve as an alternative road for those travelling to Kelantan.

He said the section, which began construction in October 2014, was completed in October this year, costing RM59 million.

"The dual-carriageway stretch deployed the Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavement (CRCP) method, which has high durability and can help reduce maintenance cost.

"The CSR project is the second in Malaysia using CRCP after the North-South Highway near Perak had deployed the same method in 1990," he said after opening the stretch here today.

The CSR project is estimated to cost RM6.6 billion, comprising six phases: from Kuala Krai to Jambatan Sungai Lakit, Kelantan (51km), Jambatan Sungai Lakit to Gua Musang, Kelantan (63km), Gua Musang to Kampung Relong, Pahang (107km), Kampung Relong to Raub, Pahang (56km), Raub to Bentong (60km) and from Bentong to Simpang Pelangai (53km).
