Shutdown of Bukit Badong substation inevitable, preventive maintenance work much needed

KUALA LUMPUR: The move to shutdown the Bukit Badong substation due to maintenance works could no longer be delayed in order to ensure continuous water supply.

Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) Corporate Affairs and Communications senior general manager Datuk Ir Mohd Aminuddin Mohd Amin said the shutdown, which will begin tomorrow, is to enable maintenance work (preventive maintenance) and installation of the arc protection system be made safely at the substation in Kuala Selangor.

He said the 16-hour maintenance work cannot be further postponed as the substation equipment was worsening and anymore delay would affect the electricity supply in the long run.

“Physical examination including thermal scanning done on Dec 15 showed two hot spots that require immediate action to prevent major damages on the substation equipment.

“If these scheduled works get postponed again, a flashover could occur anytime and repairs could take up to three weeks,” Aminuddin said in a statement today.

The maintenance work was initially scheduled for Sept 27, however the water companies, Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) and Syarikat Pengeluaran Air Sungai Selangor Sdn Bhd (SPLASH), had asked for it to be postponed.
