Sound of silence: Penang BN chief attends press event with mouth taped shut

GEORGE TOWN: All eyes were on Penang Barisan Nasional chief Teng Chang Yeow when he walked into a press conference this afternoon with his mouth plastered over.

The symbolic 'X' sign was to show that he had been silenced by Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng for speaking up against the controversial sale of Penang Development Corporation's 49 per cent stake in Pulau Jerejak to a private company.

Yesterday, Lim said he had sent a letter of demand to Teng on his claims that the chief minister had rejected a "profit guaranteed" deal involving the development of Pulau Jerejak.

"Today is me. Tomorrow is you all and the next day will be the common rakyat," Tan said, referring to the letter of demand, before leaving the room.

His aide then handed newsmen a media statement along with a mask with a boxed 'X' on it.

In the statement, Teng confirmed receiving the letter of demand almost three weeks ago and that his lawyer had responded to it.

“I will answer all his (Lim's) complaints in court.

“I will continue to ditch our new information on Pulau Jerejak and other land deals in the coming months,” he added.
