Zahid saddened by RMAF's plane crash, Hishammuddin orders probe into incident

KUALA LUMPUR: Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein has instructed his deputy, Datuk Seri Mohd Johari Baharum and newly-minted RMAF chief General Datuk Seri Affendi Buang, to head over to Butterworth, Penang to oversee the investigation into the RMAF Beechcraft B200T crash.

The plane crash claimed the life of a Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) pilot and injured three other crew members.

Armed Forces chief General Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor will also be headed to the Butterworth Air Base tonight.

At the same time, Hishammuddin extended his condolences to the family of the deceased pilot and conveyed his concern for the three other injured crew members.

Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi went on Twitter, stating that he is deeply saddened over the RMAF aircraft accident and the death of the pilot.

He also hoped that the families of the deceased and those injured in the crash will be patient while the authorities investigate the matter.

Earlier, New Straits Times reported that the aircraft, originating from Subang, was on a training mission when the incident occurred at 5.18pm.

The victims have been sent to the Seberang Jaya Hospital for treatment.
