KL Sports City on track for completion by 2017 Sea Games

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad (MRCB) has announced that overall construction work on Phase One of Kuala Lumpur Sports City, which includes the rejuvenation of sports infrastructure at the Bukit Jalil Sports Complex, is on schedule and currently stands at 60 per cent completion.

In a media briefing on Thursday, MRCB explained that the project is focused on four key aspects of KL Sports City. They are the Bukit Jalil National Stadium, Putra Indoor Stadium, National Aquatic Centre and National Hockey Stadium – as well as a large-scale plaza and infrastructure development works that will complement the main venues and greatly improve connectivity and the movement of people between stadiums and the surrounding public transportation network.

S. Nalgunalingam, general manager of MRCB, said: "We want to ensure timely completion and handover for the 2017 Sea Games. MRCB will deliver a world-class national sports complex that will provide both athletes and spectators with gold-standard sporting facilities and experiences."

MRCB has also given its assurance that the project will be completed by July next year to allow athletes to train and test the facilities in order to gain home advantage ahead of the biennial Games.

In Oct, the federal government had chosen MRCB, through its subsidiary Rukun Juang Sdn Bhd, to undertake the KL Sports City project.

The new sports complex will be built around a regenerated Bukit Jalil National Stadium and will create a vibrant sports hub that is accessible to athletes as well as the local community, recreational users and the general public.
