Klang New Year's fireworks accident: MPK apologises, forms team to investigate explosion

SHAH ALAM: Klang Municipal Council (MPK) will form a special investigation team to look into a firework show that went awry during the 2017 New Year celebrations.

Council president, Mohamad Yasin Bidin, said in a statement, MPK deeply regrets and apologises over the fireworks explosion which injured 14 people.

Mohamad Yasin who visited the victims said their recovery process will be monitored closely and MPK will offer assistance until they have fully recovered.

“An estimated 15,000 visitors was present at event. During the event, the fireworks had exploded, injuring some of the spectators.

“Four children and 10 adults suffered minor injuries. All victims have received outpatient treatment at the Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah and were discharged this morning.

“MPK will bear all the cost of the treatment,” he said.

Several video clips of the New Year’s celebrations shared on Facebook showed thousands of revellers at Pandamaran Complex cheering when the fireworks display went off a midnight. The situation however, turned chaotic moments later when the explosion occurred, sending spectators running for safety.
