Port Klang fireworks mishap: Organiser engaged unlicensed company

JOHOR BARU: Police will conduct a thorough investigation into a New Year’s fireworks display mishap in Port Klang, Selangor, which left 10 people injured.

Deputy Home Minister Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed said tough action will be taken against those responsible, including the organiser of the event and the company which conducted the fireworks show.

"The ministry is taking this matter seriously, especially since we (discovered) that the organiser had engaged an unlicensed company to conduct the fireworks show," said Nur Jazlan.

He added that the organiser is also liable for any legal action taken against them by those injured.

In the incident, which occurred just after midnight, 10 people were hurt when a fireworks show marking the New Year went awry at the Pandamaran Complex in Port Klang.

Instead of shooting into the air, fireworks began launching into the terrified audience.
