Abandoned Tampin toddler progressing well in hospital

TAMPIN: More than 24 hours after he was rescued by police and villagers of Kampung Parit Buluh Air Kuning Selatan, the 3-year-old who was found alone at a house here, believed to have been left to his own devices by his mother, has shown progress.

Negri Sembilan Social Welfare Department (JKM) director Mohamad Hapil said the toddler, who has been warded at the Tampin Hospital since Friday, is now being monitored by the department's personnel, besides doctors and medical staff at the hospital.

"He is cheerful, happy and healthy. His appetite has improved and is showing positive progress.

"At the moment, we are not sure when he will be discharged. A thorough medical examination needs to be carried out by the medical team," Mohamad said when contacted today.

He added that the department will make an application to award the toddler's grandfather temporary custody once he is discharged from the hospital.
