Abandoned Tampin toddler: 'Caretaker' remand extended

TAMPIN: Investigations into the shocking case of an abandoned 3-year-old toddler here continue as police obtained a remand extension for a 36-year-old suspect, believed to have been the victim’s caretaker, and not his mother, as she had earlier claimed.

Magistrate Tan Chai Wei granted a three-day extension request for the remand, which ends today, until Jan 11.

The woman arrived at the Tampin magistrate court premises at about 10am and was escorted by police officers.

She was arrested on Friday on suspicion of abandoning and neglecting the toddler by leaving him to own his devices inside a dirty, locked room at a house in Kampung Parit Buluh Sungai Kuning Selatan here, before leaving for her hometown.

The toddler was rescued by villagers who heard his cries at 12.45am, after he is thought to have been left alone, without food, for at least two days.
