Johor Land Office staff pleads not guilty to taking RM150,000 bribes

JOHOR BARU: A 56-year-old assistant officer of the Johor Baru Land Office pleaded not guilty at Sessions Court today to a charge of allegedly accepting RM150,000 in bribes.

Ahmad Ehwan Ahmad, 56, was charged with allegedly taking the money from Toh Ang Poo, 49, over the latter's several permit applications on Sept 5 last year.

He was charged under Section 165 of the Penal Code, for accepting cash or valuable items while on duty as a public servant.

Ehwan was represented by counsels Mohd Tarmeze Mohd Taib and Azrul Stork.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Amir Nasruddin earlier asked for bail to be set at RM50,000 with one surety and that the accused's passport be surrendered to court.

After mitigation, Judge Mohd Fauzi Mohd Nasir set the bail at RM30,000 with one surety and ordered for the surrender of the passport.

He then set Feb 14 for mention of the case.
