Adenan served Sarawak with sincerity, says Taib Mahmud

KOTA SAMARAHAN: "He has left behind a good government, as good as ever... even better than what I had inherited before..."

Those were the words of tribute paid by the Yang di- Pertua Negeri Sarawak Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud, who was the former Chief Minister, following the death of his successor Tan Sri Adenan Satem.

Taib named Adenan as his successor in February 2014, after he decided to step down.

“I brought him into politics in 1982 or 1983 as I know he has the solid ability to think and to analyse any situation.

“He had served the state well. He did it with sincerity," he said.

Taib, accompanied by his wife Toh Puan Ragad Kurdi Taib, had arrived at the Kota Samarahan Heart Centre here about 3pm to pay their last respects to the late chief minister.

Clad in a white ‘baju melayu’, Taib appeared visibly emotional at Adenan’s passing.

Security was tightened at the hospital, especially at the elevator entrances to ensure that no outsiders and media were allowed to enter Level 8, which is the VIP suite.

Adenan, 73, passed away at 1.24pm today, after being admitted to hospital on Saturday.
