Taib Mahmud receiving treatment at home - Sarawak police commissioner

KUCHING: Former Sarawak Yang di-Pertua Negeri, Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud, 87, is currently receiving treatment at his residence in Demak Jaya, here.

Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata confirmed the matter, adding that the former Chief Minister of Sarawak for 33 years was currently in good condition.

According to him, police have so far received eight reports involving Taib, after he was taken out of the Normah Specialist Hospital in Petra Jaya, at midnight last Saturday.

"Yes, Tun is currently at his own home in Demak Jaya but we cannot give further details.

"This is because the case is still under investigation after the police received eight reports so far," he said.

He said this to the media after launching Op Selamat in conjunction with the Chinese New Year Celebration at the Sarawak police headquarters, here, today.

When asked who had lodged the eight police reports, Mancha refused to comment further.

"It cannot be disclosed because our side is still conducting an investigation," he said.

Last Saturday, a Normah Specialist Hospital doctor made a police report after Taib was allegedly taken out of the hospital.

Taib's younger brother, Datuk Mohamad Tufail Mahmud, in a police report lodged at the Kuching central police station, also claimed the family would hold Taib's wife Toh Puan Raghad Kurti "fully accountable and responsible" if anything happened to the 87-year-old.

Tufail also alleged that Taib was "removed and abducted" by Raghad from the hospital against medical advice without consulting the intensive care unit (ICU) medical staff and without consulting and obtaining the approval of the family.

Mancha said that the investigation is currently being carried out according to Section 336 of the Penal Code, which is negligent acts that endanger the life or safety of others.

On Monday, Raghad had on social media denied claims that she had taken her husband out of the hospital against doctors' advice.

She also called out to the public to stop all assumptions and accusations directed towards her.
