Kelantan sets up special teams to deal with rubbish problem

KOTA BARU: The Kelantan state government has set up two teams to handle public complaints on cleanliness, including the irresponsible dumping of waste in the state.

Its Local Government, Housing, Youth and Sports Committee chairman Datuk Abdul Fattah Mahmood said the recently-formed teams will be deployed to the scene either on a motorcycle or a car.

"They will go to the scene immediately after receiving complaints. They are told to solve the problem within two hours after arriving at the said locations," said Fattah.

He said this after witnessing the handing over of the state government's financial assistance to young entrepreneurs by the Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob today.

Fattah said he hoped the setting up of the teams would help the state government solve the cleanliness issues, especially in the town area.

Apart from that, he said the state government was planning to introduce food trucks to all the traders, particularly those operating at night markets and selling food by the roadside under the Kota Baru Municipal Council (MPKB).

"The introduction (of food trucks) will also help keep Kota Baru and other districts clean from rubbish," he said.

During the function, nine entrepreneurs received RM25,000 each from the state government to help them with their businesses.
