Kelantan Bersatu chief says Zahari should have discussed his problem with party leadership

KOTA BARU: Kelantan Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) chief Datuk Kamaruddin Md Nor expressed his displeasure with Jeli member of parliament Zahari Kechik's decision to follow in the footsteps of Gua Musang MP.

He said Zahari should have discussed with the party leadership if he was facing any problem.

"Although I did not find his action surprising, I was a little upset that he did not discuss with the party leadership about the problems he faced.

"Hence, I am anticipating the course of action that the party will undertake," he said when contacted.

He said a point that attracted his attention was the sentence structure of the press releases issued by the four MPs from Bersatu.

"Zahari's press statement contains identical wording to that of the three MPs from Gua Musang, Kuala Kangsar, and Labuan.

"It is as if there is a secretariat that manages matters involving MPs from Bersatu," he said.

He then urged Bersatu's leadership to investigate the matter carefully and act accordingly for the integrity of the party.

Another Bersatu federal lawmaker today has declared support for the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's administration.

Less than 24 hours after Gua Musang MP Mohd Azizi Abu Naim declared his support for the Madani government, Jeli MP Zahari Kechik had also done the same, saying that it was for the constituents' well-being.

Mohd Azizi, in a nearly templated response professing allegiance to Anwar, declared that he would continue to be a member of Bersatu and was willing to face the repercussions of his actions.

Zahari also said the decision to back Anwar was made without any coercion, influence or pressure from any party and reiterated that he had willingly pledged his allegiance to the government for the sake of his constituents.

Yesterday, Mohd Azizi joined fellow Bersatu MPs Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan) and Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar).

In a statement posted on his Facebook page, Mohd Azizi said his move to support Anwar had to be done for the sake and betterment of the people in his constituency.

Azizi's declaration of support for Anwar comes just after Bersatu announced that it had suspended Suhaili's membership in the party for six years for backing Anwar.

Two days earlier, Bersatu had also suspended Iskandar Dzulkarnain's membership, for four years.
