Bank Islam denies MD's suspension, says Facebook posting unfounded

KUALA LUMPUR: Bank Islam Malaysia Bhd denies that its managing director Datuk Seri Zukri Samat has been suspended.

Refuting a Facebook posting by one Raja Mohd Shahrim on Wednesday, the bank described it as “irresponsible and unfounded allegation”.

“I would like to state that there is absolutely no truth in the posting. We regret that during the last few months of Datuk Seri Zukri Samat’s tenure at the bank, that this irresponsible and unfounded allegation has surfaced,” Bank Islam chairman Datuk Zamani Abdul Ghani said in a statement today.

“For the record, Datuk Seri Zukri is due to retire in June 2017. On behalf of the board, I would like to reaffirm that Datuk Seri Zukri is of high repute as the MD of Bank Islam. Under his leadership since June 2006, the bank has undergone transformation and has achieved remarkable financial growth. Today, Bank Islam Malaysia Bhd is the leader in stand-alone Islamic banks in Malaysia,” Zamani added.

He said Zukri has the full confidence of the board as he completes his tenure and helps to implement a smooth transition to a soon-to-be-appointed MD.
