Sabah teacher happy CNY music video gets 130,000 views in 5 days

KOTA KINABALU: A secondary school teacher earned more than 130,000 views when his Chinese New Year-themed music video was shared on Facebook early this week.

The SM Beaufort teacher, Wesley Liew said the video, "Sayang-Sayang ying xin nian" was posted in the social media network since Monday.

"Initially, I have no intention of releasing an album for the Chinese New Year until a friend suggested that I should work on it for performances at functions.

"However, I want it to be meaningful and remembered, at least to the people of Sabah.

"I want to make them feel that the CNY song is dedicated to them," he said, after he performing the song before Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman at Dragon, Unicorn and Lion Dance festival at Likas Sports complex here.

Liew added that the making of the album, starting from composing to shooting of the music video, were all done by Sabahans.

The four-minute long music video, shot at a Chinese temple in Likas near here during the school holiday, also featured 32 students from SJKC St James who danced and wore traditional costumes of the Sabah people.

So far, he sold more than 3,000 of 4,000 copies at RM20 each. The proceeds from the sale, he said, will be donated to schools.
