KUALA LUMPUR: Congratulatory messages have streamed in for singer Hazama Ahmad Azmi, who officially married his girlfriend of five years, Genervie Kam, in an intimate akad nikah ceremony this morning.
The event was held at 10.30am at Orchid Villa, Sungai Gombak, and was witnessed by close friends and family.
The popular singer, who won the 9th season of reality TV show Akademi Fantasia (2011), ditched the celebrity convention of grand, elaborate weddings and instead, tied the knot in a small, low-key affair.
"The most important thing is to have the akad nikah sorted out first,” said the 33-year-old singer, who will be appearing as a mentor in the upcoming TV3 singing reality competition, Mentor Millennia.
"A small wedding is more than enough to celebrate our union. We're just really happy to be married," Hazama added.
As for the amount of dowry received, the bride was presented with RM300.
Genervie, 37, who was previously a Christian, converted to Islam in April last year.
On another note, Hazama’s song, titled Di Amaran Mama, will be competing in the finals of Anugerah Juara Lagu (AJL) 31 on Jan 22.
