Gerakan to swap seats with BN component parties for GE14

PUTRAJAYA: Gerakan has announced that it will switch four seats, both parliamentary and state, with Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties in the upcoming general election.

Its president, Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong, said Gerakan is in the final stage of discussions with component parties on the switch.

"We have been discussing the switch of four seats with Umno, MCA and MIC. However, the final decision will be made by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak," he told reporters during a press conference here today.

Without revealing more details, Mah said the seats include both parliamentary and state seats throughout the country.

He was commenting on MCA secretary-general Datuk Seri Ong Ka Chuan's statement on Penang MCA's willingness to swap seats to ensure BN’s victory in the 14th general election (GE14).

"I agree with Ong that seat swaps in places where one party is stronger than the other will strengthen BN's (performance) in the election," he added.

Meanwhile, Mah, who is also the Plantation Industries and Commodities minister, said the average price of crude palm oil (CPO) is projected to reach between RM2,700 and RM2,800 per tonne this year

He added that the average price of natural rubber SMR is expected to stabilise at RM8 per kg in the first quarter of the year.
