Federal govt will help Abang Abdul Rahman realise Adenan's promises: Zahid

KUCHING: The Federal government today pledges to support the new Sarawak Chief Minister Datuk Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Abang Openg in fulfilling the promises made by the late Tan Sri Adenan Satem.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi, in giving this assurance today, said the Federal government would ensure that the promises made by Adenan, especially in the last state election, were fufilled.

"The Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Najib Razak) and I will support the new chief minister as how we supported the late Adenan," he said after paying his last respects to Adenan at Semariang Muslim Cemetery here.

Zahid also told Sarawakians to stand firmly behind Abdul Rahman Zohari for the betterment of the state.

"Support him (Abdul Rahman Zohari) like how we supported Adenan," he said.

Abdul Rahman Zohari sworned in as the sixth chief minister after Adenan, 72, died of heard complications on Wednesday.

Zahid, later in the day, visited "Damai Jaya", the residence of the late Adenan in Santubong near here.

Apart from performing the Maghrib and Isya’ prayers, Zahid also joined Adenan’s widow, Puan Sri Jamilah Anu, her family, relatives and hundreds of guests for a recital of the tahlil prayer.

Abdul Rahman Zohari and other members of the state cabinet were also present.
