Zahid still hoping MCA will help in KKB by-election

HULU SELANGOR: Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is still hopeful that MCA will help the unity coalition's campaign for the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election.

Zahid, who is also Umno president, said he hopes MCA, which has decided against helping any non-BN candidates, will have a change of heart.

Several MCA leaders have reiterated the party's stance to stay out of the campaign for several reasons, including over insulting remarks made by DAP leaders of the party.

DAP's Pang Sock Tao is seeking to defend the seat for PH.

"We understand their feelings. However, we hope that the situation will change once the 'coldness' (towards DAP) subsides," Zahid told reporters at a press conference.

Zahid said he did not believe BN's mobilising of its machinery in the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election would affect ties within the coalition.

Meanwhile, on the old video clip of Pang criticising BN while campaigning in the last general election, Zahid said it was time to let go of the past.

"What's in front of us is a new political situation. We need to close the old chapter and open new ones."

Yesterday, the video of Pang criticising BN went viral on social media. DAP publicity secretary Teo Nie Ching later said the video was from November 2022, before the formation of the unity government.
