ALOR STAR: Beginning this year, all study loans given out by the Kedah State Scholarship Board will be converted into full scholarship for university students graduating with first class honour.

In announcing the good news today, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah said the state government had amended the board’s policy to encourage university students from the state to strive for academic excellence.

Ahmad Bashah also announced that the state government had formed a strategic partnership with corporate bodies and the state’s government-link companies to fill the scholarship board’s coffer.

“The state also agreed to increase the study loan for Kedah students who are studying in the Middle East by 20 per cent.

“We are also offering one-off special incentive through the Menteri Besar office to students who achieve excellent results in their first degree programme,” he said in his speech during his 2017 New Year Address today.

On another note, Ahmad Bashah said the state government would revive ‘Pesta Kedah’ this year, which was made famous in the 80s and 90s, to create more activities for Kedahans during the long school break at the end of the year.

He said the festival which would be known as Kedah Fest would be held at Taman Jubli Emas in Jalan Suka Menanti.
