Government allows PSD scholarship students to delay return for overseas employment opportunities

KUALA LUMPUR: The government has agreed for students currently enrolled in overseas studies under a Public Services Department (PSD) scholarship to postpone their return to Malaysia and pursue employment opportunities abroad.

In a statement, PSD said this decision aims to enable students to gain valuable work experience and skills abroad before returning to contribute to the nation.

The deferment option applies to final-year students pursuing their bachelor's degrees and is subject to application, not automatic approval.

"The permitted duration for working abroad is up to three years," the statement read.

However, during this deferment period, students are still obligated to repay the scholarship on a monthly basis.

"The period spent working abroad will be counted towards fulfilling the bond service period specified in the scholarship agreements.

"Adjustments to scholarship repayment terms are only applicable to students who secure local employment."

Applications for deferment can be submitted by PSD scholars starting from Feb 15 through the official website https://myself.jpa.gov.my.
