Benjamin Mora assumes new role as JDT coach

JOHOR BARU: Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) has announced the appointment of former JDT II coach Benjamin Mora to take up the spot left vacant by Mario Gomez, who officially parted ways with the award-winning football club, today.

Mora assumes duty as the club’s coach effective immediately.

The club’s sports director Alistair Edwards said the decision announced today had been under consideration for the past few months involving Gomez and the top brass in JDT.

“It was not a shock decision because several series of discussions were held for the past few months between Gomez and Darul Ta’zim owner Tunku Mahkota Johor Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim.

“Mora is part of the Darul Ta’zim family and his appointment is part of the club’s long-term plan and our philosophy,” he said in a press conference at the Tan Sri Dato’ Haji Hassan Yunos Stadium in Larkin.

Mora, 51, is a Mexican-born coach with experience in Mexican clubs such as Cafetaleros, Guerreros, Gallos Blancos and Atlante.

He was appointed JDT II coach in December 2015 and he was sent for training at Atletico Madrid in November last year.

Mora began his duty in his new role during training session today. With this move, JDT II will now be coached by Hamzani Omar.
