RRC to be imposed at Thai border in June: Transport Ministry

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is set to impose the Reciprocal Road Charge (RRC) on foreign-registered vehicles entering the country from the Thai border by this June.

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said the government is not discriminatory in implementing the RRC.

"I welcome Singapore's decision (in not implementing the RRC, if Malaysia introduces the charge at the Thai border). As I said before, we are not discriminating against Singapore cars.

"We are introducing it across all our borders. So we will introduce it at the Thai border," he told reporters, here, today.

He said this in response to Singapore's latest decision that the republic is ready to withdraw the S$6.40 RRC for Malaysian cars entering Singapore if Malaysia also imposes the fee at other borders.

Earlier this month, Singapore announced that the RRC would be implemented starting Feb 15, to mirror Malaysia's RRC which started on Nov 1, 2016. -- BERNAMA
