Eight Cameron Highlands shops, restaurants, go up in smoke

CAMERON HIGHLANDS: Eight business premises in Kea Farm here were razed to the ground in a large fire last night.

Cameron Highlands fire station head Muhamad Haziq Hazmi said a team was deployed after receiving a report of the 12.15am incident.

The damaged outlets comprise restaurants and shops selling souvenirs and fruits.

"The team managed to contain the fire and prevent it from destroying some 40 shops nearby.

"(A full) investigation on the incident will take about 14 days. Losses are estimated at RM500,000," Haziq said, adding that the operation ended at 7am.

Cameron Highlands district police chief DSP Hasadid A Hamid said the cause of the fire is being investigated.
