SANDAKAN: A girl whose body was found floating in waters off Pulau Nunuyan Laut here on Thursday had been in ill health and was en route to a clinic when the boat she was in capsized on Tuesday.
The body of Nor Aisyah Boloi, 13, was found by fishermen this morning.
"The victim was travelling with her mother and a younger brother from Kampung Tanjung Tabangka here by boat. She was experiencing fever and was going for a medical check-up,” said District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Azhar Hamin.
"The boat capsized in bad weather and choppy seas in Laut Tanjung Tabangka," he said, adding that the boatman only managed to rescue her mother and brother.
The remains were retrieved and brought back to the Sandakan Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) base and later sent to the Duchess of Kent district hospital for a post-mortem.
