DPM post: Azmin says not privy to Dr M-DAP discussions

SHAH ALAM: PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali said today he is unaware about the discussions between Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and DAP over the issue surrounding the deputy prime minister's post.

"I am not privy to the discussions between Dr Mahathir and DAP," he said after a convocation ceremony held at Dewan Jubli Perak Sultan Abdul Aziz today.

He said on the question of who will become the prime minister or deputy prime minister, will only be delibrated once the opposition wins the general election.

Saying that it will be a democractic process, Azmin added that the matter is also subjected to discussions between political parties in and outside of Pakatan Harapan.

"(But) It is not the question of whether we agree or not (on who becomes prime minister and deputy prime minister). The people are the ones who will decide who wins in the general election. So we will have to respect the decision made by the rakyat," Azmin said.

He was asked to comment on Dr Mahathir's statement that DAP had allegedly requested the deputy prime minister post.

DAP, however, has since denied making such request.

Dr Mahathir, via a blog posting last night, later corrected his earlier statement to say that it was MCA which had asked for the position, and not DAP.

On the New Year's eve fireworks display mishap, Azmin said it is up to the Klang Municipal Council to decide when it will haul up a senior officer of a department to face disciplinary board.

"The Selangor Economic Action Council (MTES) meeting on Thursday, after going through the internal investigation report, decided that the council will refer the office to the discplinary board to determine what sort of action to be taken.

"State exco Ean Yong (Hian Wah) made an official statement (earlier this week) after we studied the internal investigation report. We are satisfied with it. It was very comprehensive. The police had also carried out their investigations and we will leave it up to them and the Attorney-General's Chambers," said Azmin.

On the 20 sen plastic bag charge by retailers as part of the 'Bebas Plastik' campaign, Azmin said there is no decision to have a law provision to regulate how the money collected should be used.

"We leave it to the business operators and retailers. However from the feedback we received, people are positively responding to this issue. If there are additional feedback, we are open to discuss it." said Azmin.
