Back-to-school supplies for underprivileged students

Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad (MRCB) Foundation kicked off the new year by adopting another school as part of their efforts to equip 600 underprivileged students for the 2017 school year.

Various back-to-school items were given to 60 underprivileged students from Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (Tamil) Vivekananda, Brickfields, the latest out of six schools MRCB Foundation has adopted so far.

Federal Territories Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Loga Bala Mohan officiated the handover of the school items to the students, aged seven to 12. The children each received a school bag, uniform as well as shoes and socks, ensuring their needs for the current school year are taken care of for their convenience.

The corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative is part of MRCB Foundation’s Young Leaders Campaign-Back To School Programme which will see a total of 600 underprivileged children receiving the same contributions.

Datuk Dell Akbar Khan MRCB executive vice-president, speaking at the handover ceremony, said: “We believe we have a responsibility towards the community we are in. SJK (T) Vivekananda is located nearby Kuala Lumpur Sentral CBD and the welfare of its students is important to us.”

“The back-to-school items they have received will ensure they have everything they need to tackle the current school year.

“Obviously, education is important and we hope that the back-to-school supplies they have received will allow them to focus on their studies and secure a bright future,” he added.

The next school to receive assistance is Sekolah Kebangsaan Pengkalan Jaya, Penang with 150 students receiving the same donations.

A total of 400 students from adopted schools namely, Sekolah Kebangsaan La Salle 1, Brickfields, Sekolah Kebangsaan La Salle 2, Brickfields, Sekolah Kebangsaan Iskandar Perdana, Perak and Sekolah Kebangsaan Kuala Perai, Penang have already received the back-to-school supplies at the end of last year.

MRCB has long been supportive of underprivileged schoolchildren and has adopted numerous schools across the country since 2007 and will continue with more CSR programmes via its MRCB Foundation.

More than 20,000 children have benefited from back-to-school contributions as well as financial aid from MRCB. The property development and construction giant remains committed to being a socially responsible corporation in the long run.
