Zahid confirms Anifah is not resigning, opposition spreading lies

KOTA KINABALU: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has attested that no senior minister has resigned as claimed by Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali.

Yesterday Azmin, in his Twitter post, claimed he had heard that a senior minister had left the cabinet following issues relating to 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).

Rumours started to spread and Foreign Minister, Datuk Seri Anifah Aman Anifah’s name, cropped up.

Zahid said he met with Anifah at a function here yesterday.

“I have posted a photo of Anifah and I on my Twitter account. In fact, Anifah is now in Brussels representing Malaysia as its Foreign Minister,” he told reporters this after launching Rela’s 45th anniversary.

Zahid, who is also the Home Minister, however did not specify the event that Anifah was attending in Brussels.

The deputy prime minister said that Azmin is trying to mislead the people and there has been many such lies told by opposition.

Earlier in his speech to thousands of Rela members, Zahid announced that the Federal government, the Home Ministry, and Sabah government will each allocate RM6 million for Rela in the state.

He said the allocations were to be used to purchase digital camouflage uniforms for 40,000 additional Rela members in Sabah.

“Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman has also agreed and has approved of a 20-acre piece of land to be developed into Rela’s training centre,” he said, adding the centre will be established in Sandakan.

Zahid added Rela members will be tasked to look after safety and security in the Eastern Sabah Safety Zone as well as the borders where there are no presence of police and armed forces.

“We will discuss with the National Security Council on the manpower needed to safeguard Esszone.”
