Thaipusam through the lens

Two photography enthusiasts spend a day at Batu Caves to capture the colours of Thaipusam, writes Izwan Ismail

LAST week, Batu Caves was a major attraction for many because of the Thaipusam festival.

For tourists, photographers and the curious, this was the best time to observe and take photographs of the colourful festival, normally held on the full moon day in the Tamil month of Thai (January/February).

Photography enthusiasts Robin Lee and Ritzzuan Salim captured many aspects of the celebration, such as the carrying of the kavadi, the musicians, the shaving of heads, bathing by the river and the colourful garb.

Armed with dSLR cameras such as Canon 6D, 60D and Nikon D800E, and lenses such as Canon 70-200mm f2.8, Canon 13-35mm f2.8 and Zeiss 85mm f1.4 and Nikkor 85mm f1.8, both photographers braved the huge crowds to get these shots.
