Looks like the actors-turned-singers syndrome is amping up and it is only the second month of this year.
Actors and newlyweds Amyra Rosli, 26, and Amar Baharin, 32, are the latest celebrity couple to seize the microphone with the recent debut of their new single, Kisah Cinta Kita.
A duet single first for the couple, this, however, would not be the first time Amyra dove into music as she has collaborated with rappers Waris and Juzzthin on Ada Saja in May.
The song made it to the semi-finals of Muzik Muzik 31 in November.
The music video for the song garnered more than 6.5 million views on YouTube.
But seeing how the sweep of actors who turned to singing has, so far, yielded disastrous results, what made the couple decide to jump on the bandwagon anyway?
“Singing has always been a hobby that we share together.
“I’ve had a keen interest in music since young, having learnt how to play the drums and guitar myself, and we always have our own little jam sessions at home. So when Life Records and Pena Creative approached us with the idea, we were all in for it. We are aware of what we’re capable of and what we’re not when it comes to hitting the notes. So, we made sure to choose a song that’s doable for us both.
“This song doesn’t require us to notably prove our singing chops. It’s a nice and simple tune to which fans can sing along to.
“It’s an opportunity for us to expand our craft outside of acting,” said Amar at the launch of their single at Red Box Karaoke at The Gardens Mid Valley in Kuala Lumpur recently.
“The purpose of this song is purely for entertainment.
“We are not looking to compete in any competition or anything. But it will be the official soundtrack of an upcoming TV series we’re both featured in as leading acts, titled Cinta Di Langit Cardiff, produced by Pena Creative,” said Amyra.
True enough, the music video for the song was shot in Cardiff last year, in between filming for the series, set to air on RTM’s TV2 this year.
“What the public has to say is beyond our control.
“It’s a fact of life that you can’t please everyone.
“But that won’t stop us from trying,” Amyra added.
On whether the song, produced by DJ Fuzz and written by Adik Viral, was inspired by the couple’s love story, she smiled and said: “Parts of it, yeah.”
