Ballot papers on way to Telok Melano for Tg Datu by-election

LUNDU: It will take about an hour for the ballot box and papers to reach Telok Melano, located about 90km from Lundu town, in time for tomorrow’s Tanjong Datu state seat by-election.

Sarawak Election Commission (EC) Sematan subdistrict office senior administrative officer Nazari Bujang said a team of four from the EC, accompanied by two police personnel, will transport the voting papers and box via the Pan Borneo Highway (which is still under construction) today.

He said although the weather is currently fine, they still chose the alternative way to reach Telok Melano.

"We do not want to use a boat or helicopter to bring the voting papers to Telok Melano, although the weather looks fine today.

"We will use the Pan Borneo Highway road to transport the ballot box and papers.

"It will take about an hour (32km from Sematan) to reach there," said Nazari when met at the Pan Borneo Highway construction site office here today.

He said a total of 175 voters from Telok Melano and Kampung Serabang will cast their votes tomorrow.

Nazari also said the voting centre will be open at SK Telok Melano from 8am to 11am.

"175 voters from both villages, Telok Melano and Serabang, will go out to cast their votes tomorrow.

"When the voting process ends at 11am, we will bring the box back to Lundu," he added.
