Kit Siang can't become PM as DAP is 'too small', says Mahathir

BALIK PULAU: DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang can never be prime minister, as his party is too small.

Highlighting this today, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammad also noted that the only way the DAP veteran can become prime minister is with the help of the Malays.

Speaking at his maiden ‘ceramah’ on Penang island under the PPBM banner tonight, Dr Mahathir sought to allay fears that Kit Siang could become the prime minister.

“DAP is too small. Lim cannot become prime minister unless the Malays make him one,” he said.

The ceramah, which began an hour late, also saw a less than stellar turnout, with only around 1,000 people in attendance.

The evening was also marked by the conspicuous absence of Kit Siang’s son, Penang Chief Minister and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, who was initially expected to attend the event.

Dr Mahathir, throughout his speech, was seen making a visible attempt to raise the spirits of those in attendance.

The former prime minister kicked off his speech by highlighting Malaysia's good fortune in escaping natural disasters affecting other countries.

He then proceeded to take potshots against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, even accusing Najib of rigging the 1999 Pekan elections.

Also in attendance was PPBM supreme council member Marzuki Yahaya, state PKR chief Datuk Mansor Othman and state DAP chairman Chow Kon Yeow.

The event ended about 10.30pm, immediately after Dr Mahathir concluded his speech.
