Ex-convict dresses up as woman to steal from Subang Jaya surau

KUALA LUMPUR: An ex-convict thought he could get away with stealing from a surau at a shopping centre in Subang Jaya by disguising himself as a burqa-clad woman here on Saturday - but he was found out.

Subang Jaya police chief ACP Mohammad Azlin Sadari said the suspect, a local man aged 21, dressed in a black burqa and entered the female section of the surau at the shopping centre at around 8.40pm.

“The security guard detained the suspect, who was behaving suspiciously and seized a wallet, cash amounting to RM408.30, as well a mobile phone owned by a 19-year-old girl who was in the surau," he said.

According to Mohammad Azlin, initial investigations revealed that the suspect had just been released from Kajang Prison and had a criminal record for drugs and theft.

The story of the arrest went viral on social media yesterday. -- BERNAMA
