Police hauls up addict for stealing cow

BESUT: A 35-year-old drug addict was detained for attempting to steal a cow from the home of a farmer near Kampung Seri Nangka, Gong Kepas, on Sunday.

District police chief Superintendent Mohd Zamri Mohd Rowi said the 44-year-old farmer discovered his cow was missing from its enclosure at the back of the house on Sunday at 3.30am.

He said the victim, with the help of several villagers, started to search for the cow on the same day. The animal was spotted tied up to some bushes not far from the farmer's home.

"The owner also found a motorycle and a van near the place where the cow was found," he said, adding that a report was lodged at the Kampung Raja police station soon after.

Zamri said following the report, the suspect from the same village, was arrested by the police. The suspect also tested positive for amphetamines.

"We seized the Toyota Vannete van and a Yamaha 135LC for further checks. Our initial probe revealed that the van was reported missing in Kuala Kerai," he added.

He said the suspect was being held for further investigation at the Besut police station, and the case was being investigated under Section 379/511 of the Penal Code for theft attempting.
