Hisham: North Korean ambassador has 'gone overboard' with accusations on Malaysia

PORT KLANG: The North Korean ambassador to Malaysia has gone overboard with his statements with regards to Malaysia’s investigation into the murder of Kim Jong-nam.

Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said what ambassador Kang Chol did went beyond his task as a diplomatic representative.

“Whatever criminal case that happens must be investigated under the law of the country it is committed in, and thus I agree with the opinion that the North Korean ambassador had gone overboard from his duties as an ambassador.

“He 'terlebih dah' (crossed the line). To me, this is a diplomatic irregularity. I think the ambassador was rude in his comments on this matter.

“I believe that all investigations into this case, as a former Home Minister, is in the good hands of the police," he told reporters at Boustead Cruise Centre in Pulau Indah, here earlier today.

Hishammuddin was there to receive the return of 184 Food Flotilla for Myanmar volunteers, who had just finished their 20-day mission to deliver humanitarian aid to the Rohingya community in Myanmar and Bangladesh.

Hishammuddin said Malaysia can prove to the world that its agencies are able to handle the case, which was clearly on display when authorities managed to arrest suspects quickly.

He said Malaysia will not be afraid to pursue the truth as the authorities are conducting investigations based on the laws of the country.

He said no one can accuse Malaysian authorities of wrongdoing as long as they conduct investigations sincerely, based on evidences and facts.
