PAPAR: A man who has been the caretaker of his grandniece since 2004 is alleged to have been raping the child for the past three years.
The girl, whose parents divorced in 2004, has been living with her granduncle and other family members at Kampung Kaiduan here for the past 11 years.
District police chief Deputy Superintendent Nor Azizulkifli Mansor said the 15-year-old, who is now 10 weeks pregnant, eventually lodged a report with the police.
“She had (confided in) her grandmother, who later accompanied (her) to make a police report at the station on Thursday.
“The 57-year-old man, who is a farmer, was detained at 5.30pm on the same day,” he said in a press conference here, adding that the girl is being kept under observation at a district hospital.
Nor Azizulkifli added that during the arrest, police found a homemade gun, also known locally as a “bakakuk” and 14 bullets.
“Interrogation of the suspect revealed that the weapon was made by him, and the 14 bullets were bought from a neighbour living in the same village.
“This led police to the arrest of a 62-year-old man at around 6.30pm the same day,” said Nor Azizulkifli, adding that the second detainee is a firearm licence-holder.
The granduncle is being investigated under Section 376 (3) of the Penal Code, Section 8 and Section 11 of the Firearms Act 1980.
