Kelantan lauds MACC's move to eye golf-playing civil servants

KOTA BARU: The Kelantan state government today said it has welcomed Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC)'s move to monitor civil servants who travel abroad, under sponsorship, to play golf.

Its state secretary Datuk Mohd Faudzi Che Mamat said such move would clear the image of civil servants in the state and at the same time be a deterrent against wrongdoings.

"Civil servants in Kelantan can play golf but only within Malaysia. This is to prevent them from being manipulated by certain quarters with vested interests.

"To me, there is nothing wrong with playing golf abroad. I also do it sometimes. But most importantly, we must ensure that we use our own money and not being sponsored by anyone," he said.

Mohd Faudzi said following MACC's latest move, the state government would disallow its staff from going on golfing trips overseas. They would only be allowed to play within Malaysia.

At the same time, he also warned civil servants in the state to stay away from any immoral activities.

It was reported recently that MACC has identified several civil servants who were still going abroad to play golf under the sponsorship of others.

Without divulging names or details, its deputy chief commissioner (operations) Azam Baki reportedly said investigations on the civil servants were still underway.
