'R' is for Rasha [VIDEO]

MOVE aside Wonder Woman, there’s a new female superhero in town! Indonesian actress Raline Shah, 31, revealed that she is set to appear in a new superhero comic book titled  R as the main character.

Being a superhero was one of her childhood dreams.

“I am the inspiration for my character. Her name is Rasha.  She leads a double life where she is an actress by day and a superhero by night,” Raline said when met at the Surga Yang Tak Dirindukan 2 movie screening at the Pavilion Kuala Lumpur shopping mall.

Although Rasha does not possess super powers, like flying, she has great detective skills and gadgets to fight off bad guys.

Produced by Kosmik, an Indonesian comic publishing company, R is set to be released this year, but no specific date has been given.

“As a lover of comic books, this is a dream come true! I grew up reading comic books, like Archie, Doraemon and Sailormoon, so I’m really excited about this,” Raline said.

Some celebrities have branched out to singing, writing a book or having their own reality show, but Raline said she preferred to do something different.

“I’m not okay with a reality show, but a semi-reality comic book is fine.”

She said she was not involved in the drawing process, but with the story development.

Commenting on the success of Surga Yang Tak Dirindukan 2, Raline, who is of Malay-Indonesian heritage and calls Malaysia her second home, said she was overwhelmed by the support shown by local fans.

The movie reportedly picked up RM1 million since its Feb 16 release in Malaysia.

The actress said she was ready to spread her wings in the entertainment industry here, and had received offers to act in local films, but has yet to find a script that she liked.

“I’m interested in working with new directors in other countries, but even in Indonesia, I’m pretty selective.

“In Malaysia, I tend to be pickier due to the language. I need to be responsible for the character that I portray.”
