Visually-impaired Penangite scores 3.84 CGPA in STPM

GEORGE TOWN: Visually-impaired sixth former Chew Sui Teng is overjoyed at having obtained a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.84 in her Sijil Tinggi Perlajaran Malaysia (STPM) examination last year.

Chew said the results were her reward for hard work over the last two years.

"It was tough, because there were limited books in Braille, and there were many times when I felt like giving up.

"However, every time I felt like giving up, I made myself work harder," she said when met at SMK (P) St George here today.

Chew and her mother, Ching Siew Yeang, 53, were at the school to collect Chew's STPM results.

Chew had been born with her visual impairment. She said her vision deteriorated further over the years, leaving her half blind by the age of eight.
