(Golf) Feng Shanshan claims second Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia win

KUALA LUMPUR: China's Feng Shanshan became the first two-time winner of the Sime Darby LPGA Classic after claiming victory by three strokes at TPC Kuala Lumpur on Sunday.

Feng followed up her win here in 2014 by carding a four-under 67 for a total of 17-under 267 in claiming her first title on the US LPGA Tour this year.

She has now finished either first or second for four consecutive years at the US$1.8 million tournament.

The victory, her fifth of her career, is also a culmination of a run of five top-five finishes in as many tournaments as Feng underlined her status as the most in-form golfer at the moment.

"It feels great to win and my record here is really good," said the Rio Olympic bronze medallist. "In the past four years I've come second, first, second, first here.

"Even though I only improved one spot, I think I had a fantastic week. I really like coming here and it feels like being at home. I look forward coming back every year."

Norway's Suzann Pettersen completed a five-under 66 to finish alone in second on 270 while Sweden's Anna Nordvqist, who started the final round two shots behind Feng, bogeyed the 18th for a 70 and fall into a tie for third with South Korean Amy Yang (69), the leader after the first and second days, on 203.

Jang Ha-na ran in four birdies in five holes to edge to within a stroke of the lead by the sixth hole but five bogeys over the next six holes saw the South Korean slide down the leaderboard to finish nine strokes off the pace.

World No 1 Lydia Ko of New Zealand went around in an even-par 71 to finish in tied-12th on 276, level with last year's winner Jessica Korda of the United States.

Sweden's Pernilla Lindberg aced the par-three 17th for the only hole-in-one of the week in a round of 71.

"This is my sixth hole-in-one," said Lindberg. "My latest one was in Beijing, so I started and ended my Asia trip with hole-in-ones."

Kelly Tan was the best performer of the nine Malaysians in the field after finishing joint-58th with a four-over 75 for a 290 total while 16-year-old amateur Ashley Lau was the next best on 296, putting professionals Michelle Koh (298) and Jean Chua (301) in the shade.

"I know this wasn't my best but there's always next year and I look forward to my next event," said Tan.
