Hunt for Taman Kok Lian thief who robbed, assaulted NST editor

AN incident where a New Straits Times copy editor was robbed and assaulted in her house compound at Taman Kok Lian, Kuala Lumpur has caused jitters among those living in the neighbourhood.

Although there were other petty crimes happening there in the past year, what happened to Lakshmi Natarajan is a cause for concern as it happened during daytime and even a padlocked gate did not deter the assailant.

A resident who declined to be identified says although police have done a goodjob by patrolling the neighbourhood, they are still worried as the suspect is still on the loose.

“My children used to walk to school. Now, I have no choice but to spend an some extra hundred ringgit for the school bus to pick them up,” she says.

She hopes the authorities will be on the lookout for the assailant who may be lurking in the corner to rob others. NST reported on Tuesday that Lakshmi was held at knifepoint by a stranger who then snatched her gold necklace, a gift from her late father 50 years ago.

Fortunately for her, apart from some bruises, she was unhurt and she managed to retain part of the necklace and pendant as it broke into two when it was yanked from her neck.

ACTIONLINE:

Jinjang police say they will increase their patrol in the neighbourhood and are hunting for the suspect.

Their spokesman says they are checking if the registration number of the motorcycle ridden by the suspect was correct.

“Do not worry as we will increase the number of officers in the area,” he adds.
