EPF contributor wants to withdraw savings

CAN an Employees Provident Fund (EPF) contributor withdraw part of her contribution for her medical expenses although she is below 55 years old?

AROKIASAMY from Seri Kembangan says his 53-year old wife had resigned as a line leader in a shoe manufacturing company as she is suffering from low-potassium condition.

The condition causes her body to get weak and she has fainting spells frequently. There have been times where his wife gets epileptic fits due to the medical condition.

Arokiasamy says the family cannot af ford the medical expenses as it is very expensive.

He hopes EPF would be able to give a solution to overcome the financial situation they are in now.

ACTIONLINE:

Members who are suffering from illnesses listed under the 57 critical illness list are allowed to withdraw a certain amount from their savings for medical expenses.

EPF, in a statement, advises Arokiasamy to check with any of the EPF office nationwide if his wife’s condition is listed.
