Ipoh eyesore: Dirty carpark upsets parents

A carpark between Taman D.R. Seenivasagam and Waller Court Flat in Ipoh has become an eyesore, with rubbish thrown strewn eveywhere.

Checks by Actionline, following complaints from Ipoh residents, show the park had become a mosquito-breeding ground with stagant water found in discarded paper and plastic cups.

A mattress was also seen.

The carpark is popular among parents waiting for their children studying at SK Coronation Park.

One of them, Syed Azhar, 37, said the carpark had been in this condition the past five years.

“I have been sending my son here since he was in Year One. Now, he is in Year Five, but the park is in the same condition.

“We are used to this situation but what worries us are the mosquitoes. The Ipoh City Council (MBI) should organise a gotong-royong to clean up this place.”

A mother, A. Clara, 31, said she refused to park there as it was dirty.

“I heard that the the number of dengue cases in Ipoh has decreased, but look at this mosquito-breeding ground,” she said, pointing to the carpark.

“The city council should clean this place often. This will benefit everyone and the place itself. Once it is cleaned, it should be maintained and the MBI anti-litter team should patrol this place everyday.”

The carpark was built for residents of Waller Court Flat, but it is now deserted, except for parents waiting for their children.

ACTIONLINE:

An officer at Taman D.R. Seenivasagam’s office said the carpark was not meant for the public as it was originally for Waller Court Flat residents.

“Our visitors’ parking is in the carpark.”

Ipoh Mayor Datuk Zamri Man said a city-wide clean-up was discussed in a meeting on Tuesday.

“Our anti-litter team personnel have been assigned to their zones, which include playgrounds and Ipoh old town.

“This carpark was cleaned up last year but the public keep dumping rubbish there. It is an attitude problem. We may deploy our enforcement officers to catch them in the act,” he said.

“But, first, we will clean up the car park as soon as possible.”
