(Actionline) Not proper way to teach dog

A reader has come forward with a claim that a dog has been abused for the past two months in Pandan Perdana.

Based on the picture submitted by the reader to Actionline, the dog had shoes hanging around its neck.

“Not only that, they were beating this dog brutally every single day.

The dog was also dragged on the road. Without feeling shame, they were bringing this dog for a walk with the shoes around its neck.

“Please bring this matter to the appropriate channel. These people should be taught a lesson. Please save this dog as soon as possible before they kill it!” the reader wrote.

The reader also included Facebook pages such as Malaysia Independent Animal Rescue and Malaysia Dogs Deserve Better, stating that this issue was already gaining people’s attention.

ACTIONLINE:

The Veterinary Services Department, when contacted, said it had taken action within 48 hours of the case being reported to it. Officers had gone to the owner’s home on the morning of Jan 14 for further investigations.

Investigations revealed that the owner, who is a female student, hung the shoes around the dog’s neck to train and teach it not to bite and chew shoes and slippers at home.

The department’s spokesman also confirmed that the dog was in good health and had not been physically abused. She added that the department had also checked the dog’s medical records from a veterinarian who the owner visits regularly. The records showed a clean bill of health.

“The Veterinary Services Department takes this case seriously as it is not the proper way to teach and educate the dog, or any pets for that matter. We have advised and informed her about the laws, rules and regulations we have in the country.

“She has acknowledged this and promised not to do it again,” the spokesman told the New Straits Times.

The spokesman said the owner has already bought a special slipper for the dog to bite instead of chewing on other slippers.
