(Actionline) Residents not in darkness anymore

Several hours after a complaint on streetlights in Rawang was published in the New Straits Times, the Selayang Municipal Council has sent workers to Emerald Gardens and a few other housing estates in Kota Emerald in Rawang to fix their streetlights.

A resident, Tan Kim Leong praised the Actionline for its effectiveness and said they were surprised to see the Selayang Municipal Council workers fixing the lights.

“We must thank you(NST) for that, work was done immediately after your report. It’s going to be a very happy new year for us light has overcome the darkness.”

“The council also deserves an applause from us for its quick action. We hope to see the streetlights switched on soon,” he said, adding that more than a thousand residents in the area have been living in the dark for between six to eight months.

“I can now go for walks early in the morning. The women in the neighbourhoods who were constantly afraid of going out at night are now at ease,” said the 60-year-old, retiree.

It was reported that the residents had been complaining to the council.

In its reply, the council said they were waiting for the developer to hand over the properties to them.
