(Actionline) Hopes of steady water supply turned off despite installation of new pipes

CONSTANT water supply disruptions in Felda Bukit Goh, Kuantan, has left some 400 villagers here and in neighbouring areas frustrated over the past week.

Housewife Zainah Mohd Soffi said taps were dry on Monday and Tuesday last week, and when the water supply was resumed, the the water pressure was low.

She said the villagers expected an end to their problems when a new set of pipes were installed at Bukit Goh and construction works were completed on Jan 12.

“Sadly, we only received clean water for a week before the supply stopped on Monday. Now, the water pressure is low and, at times, the taps are dry.

“Most of us have to depend on water supplied by water tanks. It is difficult to make (holiday) plans. The school holidays begin this week and we expecting family members to return home during the break,” she said.

ACTIONLINE:

A Pahang Water Management Berhad (PAIP) spokesman said the broken pipes had been repaired and it would soon look at solving issues concerning the low water pressure.

“Work to install the new pipes to supply clean water from the Semambu water treatment plant was completed recently. It is expected to solve the water problems of some 15,000 account holders in and around the settlement (in Felda Bukit Goh).

“PAIP hopes to sort out issues concerning low water pressure in the Felda settlements and look into the need to replace existing pipes. Usually, houses on higher ground are affected by unstable (water) supplies,” he said.

Meanwhile, Paya Besar member of parliament Datuk Seri Abdul Manan

Ismail said a broken pipe at the Bunga Cengkih roundabout had caused the water disruptions, and the water supply resumed on Tuesday night.
