(Badminton) Peng Soon-Liu Ying breezes through the first round of German Open

KUALA LUMPUR: Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying barely broke a sweat as they cruised into the second round of the German Open today.

Playing in their first tournament since December, the national No 1 mixed doubles thumped Finland’s Anton Kaisti-Jenny Nystrom 21-6, 21-7 in just 20 minutes in the opening round.

The 2016 Rio Olympic Games silver medallists will play local duo Mark Lamsfuss-Isabel Herttrich next for a place in the last eighth stage, tomorrow.

Another Malaysian pair, Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing also made it through but only after a tough 21-17, 18-21, 21-16 win over Germany’s Michael Fuchs-Birgit Overzier.

Kian Meng-Pei Jing, winners of the Malaysia Masters GP Gold in January will play Thailand’s Nipitphon Phuangphuapet-Jongkolphan Kititharakul next for a place in the quarter-finals.
